The reproduction of the binding shown above is found in the Gumuchain Catalogue (1930, XII,) It is binding number 32. Carefully read the item description, I failed to read the fine print here and at first was thinking this was a binding from 1548. Which would be highly significant if it was, however the careful eye of the expert who wrote this description has detected, fortunately, that this binding was originally on a different book. Therefore the 1548 date of publication is not relevant! The quality of the Gumuchain reproductions is excellent and far exceeds anything that you can find in these "modern" times. Here we can extract some high resolution imprint specimens...

Below I have reproduced an undistorted version of the cover of Esmerian's item 31. Vol. 1, 1972 as well as his description. If I understand him correctly he situates this binding around 1539-1540. We can see here many similar tools and techniques as that found on the binding shown at the top of the page. Particularly the border of small tools. Therefore a further confirmation that the date of 1548 is not valid for this binding.
