The Caledonien - Nuku Hiva to Tahiti

beach

The run down to Tahiti only took 2 days. I don't know what I was expecting, I knew almost nothing about Tahiti, although there was some talk on the boat about "Quinn's Bar" having a reputation as one of the roughest bars in the Pacific, of course everyone in our group would be heading off to see that as soon as we arrived! We had three days to wander around, it was fantastic, I remember being amazed by all the exotic flowers and the fabulous turquois colour of the lagoon, off in the distance, the island of Moorea wonderously beautiful. We went all around the island hitchhiking or catching the local transports. Well away from the bustle of town we found a beautiful white sand beach where there were some good waves, and I experienced for the first time swimming in warm water, Canadians who swim in the ocean shiver the whole time, here was something incredibly luxurious, completely comfortable swimming... I couldn't get enough of it and spent a whole afternoon trying to learn to body surf on some good sized waves. The three days passed quickly, it was one big non stop party and left an impression of life in the Islands like an indellible mark. Even though I afterwards traveled far and wide circling the globe, nowhere seemed so perfect as Tahiti.
